So far, thanks to moneys procured from the Art and Garden Tours. we have been able to undertake the restoration and reinstallation of a magnificent bronze Japanese urn for the City of Minneapolis. After years of restoration, it will be reinstalled near the Lake Harriet Bandshell the spring of 2008.

The last Saturday of every July, we host the Tangletown Gardens’ Garden and Art Tour. This self-guided annual tour features some of the Twin Cities’ best gardens, local art, and galleries. Wine tasting in the gardens is generously provided by Solo Vino of Saint Paul. Proceeds from the tour help fund public art and garden projects in the cities of Saint Paul and Minneapolis. Every year the event gains more recognition and has fostered a loyal following. Check back to see highlights of this year's tour. It was our largest and best tour yet.

Mark your calendar! The 2009 Garden and Art Tour will be held Saturday July 25th, 9:00-4:00, rain or shine. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 the day of the tour and are available May through July at Tangletown Gardens.

The 2007 tour featured gardens in the Cedar Lake/Bryn Mawr areas of Minneapolis. As always, local artists displayed their works in outdoor gallery spaces and guests enjoyed complimentary refreshments and wine tasting courtesy of Solo Vino. The day proved to be a wonderful success and by day’s end nearly 800 guests had taken in this worthwhile event. The day wrapped up with an evening celebration back at Tangletown Gardens allowing guests to mingle with the homeowners, artists, and Tangletown team members while taking in a beautiful summer evening.

In 2006, Tangletown Gardens commissioned its restoration and reinstallation back to public view at Lake Harriet. In addition, Tangletown Gardens has agreed to an ongoing commitment, along with in-kind contributions to design, install, and maintain the circular garden that surrounds it. As advocates of beauty, it is our hope that this garden and other public gifts financed by our Art and Garden Tours will serve as inspiration to many in the years to come.

The late 19th century Japanese urn was a gift to the city by the Heffelfinger family. It had been the centerpiece of the city’s Armory Gardens on the site currently occupied by the Sculpture Garden. In 1967, the historic vessel was placed into storage awaiting restoration after years of neglect and vandalism.
