Seasonal Detail and Container Design Crew Members

Tangletown Gardens is seeking applications for a Seasonal Detail and Container Design Crew Members. Ideal applicants will have experience with creating and  installing botanical designs such as: custom exterior small garden/container designs, arrangements of plant and permanent botanical variety, and/or indoor and exterior holiday decor. Applicants should have strong people skills, a positive can-do attitude, a strong work ethic, and willingness to learn and showcase the Tangletown design style.  Design, horticulture, and/or customer service experience preferred. Interest in plants, design, and a willingness to learn are essential. Preference will be given to individuals that have leadership, garden and container design experience, and working knowledge of a wide range of plant material. 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Install and maintain seasonal exterior containers and small gardens, arrangements, permanent botanical designs, and special projects
  • Coordination with Design Leads, Garden Center, Creative Director
  • Assist with sales, customer service, and events at Garden Center/shoppe.

Role will flex between 20-40 hours a week, depending on seasonality.

Landscape Crew Foreman

The Landscape Foreman is responsible for the installation and management of landscape projects from inception to completion.  The Landscape Foreman shall assist Designers with pre-install estimating and decision making, onsite layout, and efficient and precise installation and completion of each project.  The Landscape Foreman is also responsible for crew management and coordination with the Landscape Facilitator.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, direct and manage crews for maximum efficiency and quality of work.
  • Provide on the job training of crew to maximize quality, efficiency and safety practices.  Strives to improve job skills and develop the potential of each crew member.
  • Ensure that all tools and equipment are properly maintained and on site for maximum efficiency.
  • Reports for duty at the designated location and time each day.  Ensures timely arrival on the job site by all crew members.
  • Ensures all safety rules and company policies are followed by all crew members.  Ensures all personal protective equipment is worn at times when equipment or job task specifies.
  • Communicates clearly with the Landscape Designer, Landscape Facilitator and client as needed to ensure a smooth, efficient and quality product.  Communicates production goals with crew members to ensure installation meets contract specifications.
  • Maintains a comprehensive overview of each job to ensure the best possible profitability and quality.  Provide end of day/end of job reports for Landscape Facilitator and Landscape Designer. Monitors and tracks job hours of all crew members and reports them in a timely manner to the Landscape Facilitator for payroll purposes and job cost accounting.
  • Communicates potential changes or problems to the Landscape Designer in a timely manner and recommends potential solutions.
  • As needed, performs pre-install visits to job site at the request of the Landscape Designer to aid and assist with their design and estimating process.
  • Previews future job sheets to familiarize with the project, plan necessary equipment, coordinate deliveries, prep crew, etc.
  • Conducts weekly “stand-up” meetings with crew to cover items such as planting basics, safety practices, tool maintenance, further training, weekly plans, etc.

Requirements:

  • Must have one of the following:  minimum of 2-year degree in horticulture or related field; 2 years prior experience as a crew foreman; or previous experience on the Tangletown Gardens landscape install crew.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to read drawings and plans.
  • Flexible work hours, scheduled weekly, Monday – Friday, and generally between the hours of 7:30am and 5:30pm.  Weekends or overtime on an as-needed basis.
  • Good physical condition, manual dexterity and stamina.
    • Able to bend, kneel, walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time during the workday.
    • Able to lift 60-80 pounds repeatedly throughout the workday.
    • Able to work in all outdoor conditions:  heat, cold, humidity, rain, dust, mud, etc.
    • Good physical condition, manual dexterity and stamina.

Landscape Crew Member

The Landscape Crew Member is an integral part of the installation process of landscape projects from inception to completion.  Landscape Crew Members will work under the direction of the Landscape Foreman to complete landscape installations at client sites.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Work under the direction of the Landscape Foreman, Designer and/or Landscape Facilitator to complete landscape projects for Tangletown Gardens’ clients.
  • Assist in all facets of the landscape process, including demo, bed prep, hardscapes and planting.
  • Operate various tools and equipment used on site, as dictated by task.
  • Assist Landscape Foreman in maintaining and cleaning all tools and keeping fleet vehicles clean and organized.
  • May be asked to drive company vehicles from time to time.  Must have current MN-DOT Health Certificate on file prior to driving company vehicles.  Follows MN-DOT standards of operations for all vehicles, trailers, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and safe job site at all times.  Wears appropriate personal protective equipment as dictated by job task or equipment usage.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Previous Landscape experience is preferred but not required

Landscaper

Seasonal Garden Center Associate

We offer a work environment in which our Tangletown Gardens farm team, design team, and garden center team are intertwined to offer our guests the unique experience that they have come to expect at Tangletown Gardens. In this position you will assist in helping customers with plant material. You will assist in customer service and sales of distinctive pottery, unusual plants and trees, and garden art. As a season garden center associate you will assist with the processing of materials, from both our farm and other partners. While not mandatory, some candidates with design experience may also be asked to assist as a maker (creating inspiring and salable potting bench items, succulent arrangements, and/or assisting as a potting bench attendant to help customers design and create window boxes, doorstep planters, etc). Assistance with indoor and outdoor product merchandising will also be another component of this position.

Landscape Designer

We are seeking the best designers as applicants for this unique position starting immediately. This position is responsible for working with customers directly to deliver innovation, creativity, first-class service and the creation of memorable landscapes. Our designers get to create using our vast array of unique conifers, trees, shrubs, and perennials that we hand select and source from all over the country. This position will work off-site primarily with occasional meetings at Tangletown Gardens . Hours are flexible, but do require availability to meet with customers on evenings and weekends when necessary. This Position will report directly to our co-owners, Scott Endres & Dean Engelmann.   • Posseses extensive garden design experience and are well versed in the creative use of unusual herbaceous and woody plants.

Tangletown Gardens Farm Intern

Come learn and experience the progressive, sustainable, and unique means of vegetable and animal production on our 100 acre farm located just 45 minutes west of the Twin Cities. This internship will expose you to greenhouse crop production, cover crop integration, crop rotation, vegetable production, harvest, and storage techniques, pasture based beef, chicken, duck, turkey, and hog production, aquaponics, CSA production and shipping, as well as a host of other activities that take place on the farm. We practice sound biological farming principles and are toxic chemical free in both our greenhouse and field production. This is a 3 month minimum internship and stipend will be based on experience. Housing may be available to a limited number of interns. If you are a hard worker, eager to learn, and want to experience one of the most diverse internships available, this may be the one for you. This position is based in Plato, MN which is about 45 minutes to and hour from downtown Minneapolis.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Work in conjunction with farm manager to fulfill daily farm needs

Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Flexibility within schedule to accommodate the needs of all areas of our business.
